Ever since I was a young girl, I had been fascinated with sewing and dressmaking. My hobby came in handy during my work as a registered midwife. It only took me a few seconds to stitch in loose buttons, fix runs in my socks, and mend a variety of other things.
I never realised that my hobby would one day become the most significant source of joy and comfort to me!
It started from the eventful day when I bid farewell to my nursing career. After spending more than three decades of my professional life with the NHS, I decided to ‘live my best life’ in 2018. Early retirement meant that I had years of adventure and exploration ahead of me as soon as I took off my scrubs.
Unintentionally, I went back to old hobbies and patterns. This relaxation period brought upon the revival of my passion for sewing and dressmaking. Since then, sewing has given me a great deal of pleasure. It allows me to sit back and relax as time trickles away. I have dedicated many hours a day to master standard techniques and experiment with new ones.
I wish to impart the same enthusiasm and knowledge to aspiring seamstresses. My sewing classes are equally beneficial for people who want to invest some quality time in mind-stimulating and relaxing recreational activities. Also, as we move from basics to advanced levels of learning, I hope that these sewing workshops create stronger ties within the community.
Opening a sewing school in Milnsbridge is my way of giving back to the community. At present, I am a Registered Midwife (RM - Registered Midwife), Nurse (RGN - registered general nurse) and Childbirth Coach. I hold a City and Guild Fashion Level 2 and PCGE (Postgraduate Certificate in Education). I am a qualified mental health first aider too, something I am passionate about. I completed the fashion and education qualifications to ensure that you receive the best guidance possible from your teacher.
I want to invite members of the local community and those beyond to spend a few hours in a peaceful learning environment. My passion lies in restoring long-forgotten techniques and traditional dressmaking styles, ones that our mothers and grandmothers practised decades ago. Through their revival, I want you to stop spending too time online and start tapping into your inner creativity.
I can teach you how to create unique bespoke clothes that are a perfect fit for any occasion. We will learn the art of upcycling fabrics to merge affordability with your unique sense of style. Not to forget that our substantial techniques can transform fabrics to fashion without spending an extra penny. We are currently living through a cost of living crisis, this is the perfect time to reuse, reduce and recycle.
Whether you are a beginner or experienced seamstress, I have a wealth of knowledge to offer. Each workshop brings in a hands-on experience for you, which is supported by a loving, learning environment. Through it, I would like to stimulate your creativity and build individual growth via small friendly group settings (a maximum of five students) or through one to one sessions.
The best part is that my courses accommodate learners of all ages and skillset. That means you don’t need prior experience to be part of the workshops.
