Whether your sewing skills have are rusty or you are venturing into sewing for the very first time, the beginners workshop is for you. Here you will learn how to sew by understanding the basics through easy-to-follow demos and practice sessions.
Please note: all fabrics & materials are included in the cost of the workshop.
Firstly, you will receive an introduction from Maxine and you will learn about the tools involved in sewing. Following the introduction you will explore the sewing machine including winding the bobbin, inserting a bobbin and threading a machine.
You will then learn how to sew, including undertaking sewing techniques such as straight stitch, curves, corner, reverse, basting and zig zag stitching. You'll take home a cushion cover you create within workshop one.
Within workshop two, you will create a lined tote bag with a material of your choice! Within the workshop you will practice straight stitch, back stitch, seams and pressing/ironing.
Workshop three will cover creating a zipper pouch, handy for stationary! Within the workshop you will practice straight stitch, back tack and insert a zip onto the pouch.
Within the last workshop you will get the chance to create your own pair of unisex shorts. You will learn to use a sewing pattern and insert elastic. You will reinforce your learning of the sewing techniques you have learnt across the previous workshops.
Please note:
Feel free to bring your sewing projects, patterns and sewing kit from home. We will provide personalised and guided instructions according to your project. That way, you can infuse your unique style and fashion sense into your final work.
